Considering the position you are running for, what do you feel are the three most pressing issues?
Community Growth – The long-term health of any town is integrally tied to its student population and schools. Community growth is essential for the long-term sustainability of Edgecomb, because strong, vibrant communities help maintain student enrollment, generate local tax revenue, and provide support networks for schools. As families move into the area, school populations stabilize or grow, ensuring a sustainable school system and town for years to come.
Financial Sustainability – Edgecomb, like many small towns in Midcoast Maine face significant budget challenges for schools, including declining enrollment, rising operational costs, and limited state funding. Additionally, federal funding uncertainties and increasing costs for transportation, special education, and infrastructure repairs further strain resources. Addressing these financial pressures requires increasingly creative solutions.
Student Achievement – The COVID-19 Pandemic had a profound effect on student achievement and impacts continue to be seen in Edgecomb and across the state/nation. Supporting our teachers in the community through ensuring a prosperous, secure, sustainable and consistent learning environment is key to closing these gaps. As a small school on the Midcoast there are unique opportunities to share lessons learned with surrounding communities while supporting our students on their path to success leading to a brighter future for Edgecomb and the Midcoast.
Any other thoughts on why you are running or what you can bring to the office?
As a former teacher, parent of an 11-month-old, property owner, and data scientist, I will bring a unique blend of experience to the Edgecomb school board. With firsthand knowledge of classroom challenges, I can advocate for strong teacher support, curriculum enhancements, and student-focused policies. As a parent, I have a personal stake in long-term school sustainability, ensuring decisions benefit future generations. As a property owner, I understand the impact that tax increases have had on the citizens and the need to drive sustainability and efficiency in future budgets. Additionally, my expertise as a data scientist provides the skills needed to drive data informed decision-making. I can help optimize resource allocation, improve student outcomes, and identify innovative solutions for financial sustainability. Through all of these experiences, I can support policies that strengthen the Edgecomb Eddy School, enhance community engagement, and ensure long-term success for students and educators alike.
