Eagles soar over Seahawks

Boothbay Region High School (BRHS) Seahawks lost at home to the Lincoln Academy Eagles, 69-59, Thursday, March 6, in Unified play. Seahawks will play Lincoln Academy again Monday on the road, as they head into the final stretch of the season: Tuesday, March 11, at home versus Hall-Dale (3:30), and Thursday, March 13, also at home in a highly anticipated face-off with BRHS faculty and staff (1:30).
Seahawk Eddie Carpenter and Eagle Emmett Anderson tipped off the matchup with first possession going to the Eagles for a Lucy Himes basket. Carpenter scored a layup for the Seahawks' first possession.
Seahawks continue to wrestle with health. Player Matthew Jackson and coaches Dennis Dacus and Tanya Thibault were still out sick, and Chloe Joneth played in a limited capacity, contributing 10 points off the bench for her few minutes of play. Carpenter continues to impress: 23 points for the game including an impressive 3-pointer. Many of his points came from rebounds in the paint, but he also brought the ball up-court and directed other players to get open before passing.
Freshman Brandon Seigars was remarkable. He made four 3-pointers and scored another 10 points from floaters and bank shots. Junior Anthony Angelico drove to the basket, scoring four points for the team.
Team assistants Casey Phelps, Cole Hyson, Ronan Drage, Maria Smith, Zuri Smith and Matt Carpenter contributed to the team’s sportsmanship and enjoyment of the game. Coach Tammy Blackman has settled into the position confidently, directing the team and enjoying the camaraderie between the players, coaches and community.
The Eagles are coached by Morgan Brewer. Clayton Pottle officiated the game. Hannah Hills perfectly nailed all the notes of the National Anthem prior to tipoff. The team swayed to Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” (1969) at the half. While the song differs musically from their typical halftime tunes, Drage managed to find sweet dance moves as he has all season.
