Boothbay Fire & Rescue crews respond to Christmas Eve crash
On Christmas Eve, Boothbay Fire & Rescue crews responded to a call from Lincoln Country Communications for an accident on River Road, near the Edgecomb town line. Upon arriving at the scene, rescue personnel found a Volvo Station wagon, which was travelling north had crossed over the southbound lane and impacting a telephone pole, completely splitting the pole in half. The car then traveled an additional 100 feet before coming to a stop in a field. The force of the impact and resulting telephone pole failure resulted in over ¼ mile of wires to be hanging dangerously close to the roadway and CMP personnel were dispatched to de-energize the line and secure the area for rescue and towing personnel to remove the vehicle.
Despite the severity of the impact and force of the collision with the pole the driver was unharmed and was able to extricate himself from the vehicle by the time fire crews arrived at the scene.
At the time of the accident, River Road was covered in partial snow and ice, with temperatures in the low 20s. Boothbay Fire/Police established traffic control, allowing for single lane use of River Road. Boothbay’s Rescue and Utility 2 trucks were deployed, along with nine firefighters, and after three hours at the accident scene on Christmas Eve fire crews were cleared of the accident.
Assisting Boothbay Fire were the Lincoln County Sheriff’s office and two trucks and crews from CMP which reestablished power to residents.
